Lotus Temple

Lotus Temple or Bahai Temple is Bahai house of worship. The temple is among the most visited monuments in India. The Temple is located at Kalkaji in Delhi. The temple has no restrictions for visitors and is open to people from all religions. The temple has attracted over 51 million people since its opening in 1986.

The Lotus Temple, has a nine-sided circular shape. Inspired by the lotus flower.

The structure is made up of pure white marble The architect Furiburz Sabha chose the lotus as the symbol common for Hindu, Buddha,  Jainism and Islam.

It has won numerous architectural awards and been featured in hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles. The lotus bud depicted by the temple has been made as close to a real lotus which grows only in water, by providing water ponds all around the temple.

Around the blooming petals there are nine pools of water, which light up, in natural light. It looks spectacular at dusk when it is flood lit.

Visiting Time: Tuesday to Sunday.

Timings: 9 am to 5:30 pm

Mondays closed
